Status Bar Password Protection Indicator & Dialog Access
Protecting confidential publications with military-grade AES-GCM password encryption is an essential feature in Open Publisher. In previous releases, the active protection badge was anchored in the top title bar. In the desktop V5 client, this location caused visual overlap and click conflicts with native window action buttons ("Show in file explorer" and "Pin window on top"). Version 5.5.1 relocated the password protection indicator (#protected-indicator) to the bottom status bar, nesting it alongside zoom controls with direct 1-click management dialog access.
The translucent lock pill badge docks elegantly in the status bar, providing 1-click password management.
Eliminating Desktop Window Control Collisions
The desktop V5 wrapper includes dedicated window action buttons docked at the right end of the title bar. Relocating the indicator delivers several UX improvements:
Zero Button Overlap: Clears the top title bar entirely of floating status badges, ensuring "Show in file explorer" and "Pin window on top" remain unobstructed and fully clickable.
Dedicated Title Bar Space: Keeps the top bar focused purely on document name editing, canvas coordinates, and window management controls.
Status Bar Zoom Group Docking
The indicator is nested as the first child of #zoom-slider-container on the right side of the bottom status bar:
Sleek Translucent Pill Badge: Styled with a lock icon (<i class="fas fa-lock"></i> Protected), subtle background blur, and white typography that harmonizes across all light, dark, and custom UI themes.
Responsive Flexbox Alignment: Automatically aligns vertically with zoom buttons (#zoom-out-btn, #zoom-in-btn) and slider without manual pixel offsets.
Zero-Width Inactive State: When a document is unencrypted, the badge collapses with display: none, consuming zero layout space.
1-Click Management Dialog & Lifecycle Cleanup
Rather than requiring users to search through menus to update protection, the badge provides direct interactive access:
Click-to-Manage: Clicking the indicator immediately opens the Password Protection modal (showProtectDocumentModal()), prefilling current settings for quick password modification or removal.
Automatic Lifecycle Cleanup: Resetting or creating a new document via handleNewDocument() clears state.documentPassword = null and automatically hides the badge via updateProtectionIndicator().
Tip: You can quickly verify whether your document will save with encryption simply by glancing at the bottom-right corner next to the zoom slider.
