Font Dropdown Keyboard Navigation
With hundreds of curated typography styles available in Open Publisher, scrolling through long font menus by mouse alone can interrupt your design flow. The font selection engine includes rapid keyboard navigation, letting you jump to font families with a single keystroke and cycle through options instantly.
Interactive font picker highlighting alphabetical matches with theme-reactive selection accents.
Instant Single-Key Letter Jump
When the font dropdown is open on either the main Ribbon or floating text toolbar, you can navigate without touching your mouse:
Direct Letter Jump: Pressing any letter key (A to Z) immediately jumps to and highlights the first font family starting with that letter (e.g. pressing T jumps straight to Teko).
Auto-Scroll into View: The menu automatically scrolls the matching entry into view smoothly, ensuring complete visual clarity.
Alphabetical Cycling
Pressing the same letter repeatedly cycles sequentially through all matching fonts in alphabetical order:
Sequential Stepping: Pressing T repeatedly cycles: Teko → Times New Roman → Titillium Web → Trebuchet MS → back to Teko.
Context Reset: Pressing a different letter key instantly switches context to that letter's first entry.
Navigation Keys & Canvas Isolation
The keyboard engine provides intuitive desktop controls:
Enter Key: Commits the highlighted font, applies it to your selected text box or WordArt, and closes the dropdown.
Escape Key: Dismisses the menu without altering your typography.
Arrow Keys: ArrowUp and ArrowDown allow stepping through fonts one item at a time.
Canvas Keystroke Isolation: All keystrokes are captured exclusively by the font navigation engine, preventing characters from typing into background canvas text boxes.
Note: Hovering with the mouse updates the highlight state seamlessly so keyboard cycling can pick up wherever your cursor pointed.
