Open Publisher features a dedicated, zero-dependency Charts & Graphs Studio that empowers creators to generate crisp, publication-grade vector visualizations directly on the canvas. Designed from the ground up for publishing excellence, all charts render as pure, scalable SVG objects that maintain razor-sharp clarity at any canvas zoom level and during 300 DPI high-resolution print and PDF export.

Zero External Dependencies: Unlike web applications that embed heavy external charting libraries (such as Chart.js or D3), Open Publisher generates mathematical, lightweight SVG elements natively. This guarantees instant canvas rendering, zero bundle bloat, and total offline reliability.

Interactive 3-Panel Chart Studio Modal

Clicking Chart on the Insert ribbon tab (or right-clicking the canvas and choosing Chart or Graph...) opens the Chart Studio modal (window.showChartModal()). Engineered with an expanded 980px zero-scrollbar layout, all data fields and controls fit comfortably without horizontal overflow:

Left Panel (Chart Selector & Importer): Browse the nine visual chart categories with FontAwesome preview badges. Includes a dedicated fast paste prompt to import tabular datasets in seconds.
Center Panel (Data Grid Editor): Configure title text, toggle chart legends on or off, toggle value labels, and edit data rows. Each row features a native color swatch picker, category label text input, themed number stepper, and quick row deletion button.
Right Panel (Real-Time SVG Preview): Instant WYSIWYG feedback updating simultaneously as numbers are adjusted, rows are added, or colors are customized.

Fast Spreadsheet Tabular Import

You can paste data directly from spreadsheet software including Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, or LibreOffice Calc. Click Import CSV / TSV in the left panel, paste tab-delimited or comma-separated rows, and Open Publisher automatically parses category names and numeric values into the live editor table.

Canvas Interaction, Smart Snapping & Double-Click Re-Editing

Charts operate as first-class canvas elements (.pub-element[data-type="chart"]):

Freeform Scaling & Rotation: Scale using corner or edge bounding-box handles. Vector paths recalculate in real time to maintain razor-sharp stroke weights and proportional typography.
Smart Snapping & Guides: Snaps cleanly to margin guides, column guides, ruler guides, and adjacent document objects.
Double-Click Re-Editing: Double-clicking any chart on the canvas immediately reopens the Chart Studio with that chart's existing dataset pre-loaded for rapid updates.
Full Undo & Redo: Every chart insertion, dataset change, and repositioning action registers on the history stack (pushHistory()), allowing instant reversal with Ctrl+Z.
Attribute Serialization: All chart configuration data is stored in the data-chart-config attribute, ensuring complete preservation across page switches, auto-saves, and .opub file exports.
