Multi-Page Template Insertion Studio

Open Publisher's Multi-Page Template Insertion Studio allows creators to seamlessly incorporate any of Open Publisher's 270+ professional templates directly into existing multi-page publications. Rather than being restricted to starting with a single template or duplicating identical page layouts, users can now combine diverse templates across different pages of the same document (e.g., combining a newsletter cover, an article layout, a photo spread, and a back-cover brochure).

Non-Destructive Multi-Page Workflows: Previously, selecting a template in traditional publishing suites would overwrite your entire workspace. Open Publisher gives you granular control over where and how each template page is introduced into your publication.

5 Flexible Insertion Modes

The dedicated insertion studio modal (window.showInsertTemplateModal()) provides five precise insertion modes:

Insertion Mode Target Page Action Resulting Page Order Ideal Use Case
Insert as New Page (After Target) Creates a new blank page directly after active page Target + 1 Default mode: adding a follow-up story or sub-article
Insert as New Page (At End of Document) Appends a new page at the very end of publication Final Page (N+1) Adding back covers, contact forms, or summary pages
Insert as New Page (Before Target) Creates a new page preceding the selected page Target Page Inserting a missed cover or table of contents page
Replace Target Page Content Clears current elements on active page and applies template Unchanged Restyling an existing page without modifying document page count
Append Elements onto Target Page Preserves existing elements and pastes template on top Unchanged Composing hybrid designs (e.g., adding sidebar widgets to a flyer)

Page Dimension & Orientation Handling

When incorporating templates into a publication, Open Publisher provides two intelligent sizing modes:

  • Use Template Page Size: Preserves the template's authentic dimensions, orientation (Portrait or Landscape), and aspect ratio for the imported page. Open Publisher supports mixed page orientations within the same publication.

  • Match Target Page Size: Automatically adapts the template elements to fit the current target page's width and height.

Non-Destructive Unique Element IDs & Full History Integration

When a template is inserted, every element receives a freshly generated unique ID, completely preventing ID collisions with existing document elements. The entire insertion registers on Open Publisher's history stack (pushHistory()), allowing instant one-click reversal with Ctrl+Z. Instant floating toast notifications confirm the inserted template name and target page destination.
